HDPE-Lined Steel Systems

Composite pipeline systems combining steel structural strength with HDPE chemical and abrasion resistance.

Composite Systems

The Best of Both Materials

HDPE-lined steel systems combine the structural integrity and pressure capacity of steel pipe with the chemical resistance and smooth bore of HDPE. The steel outer provides mechanical strength while the HDPE inner liner protects against corrosion, chemical attack and moderate abrasion.

WPTS fabricates HDPE-lined steel systems in-house, ensuring precise liner insertion, secure end terminations and reliable flange or weld connections. These systems are the solution of choice for moderately abrasive or chemically aggressive pipeline applications in mining and industry.

How HDPE-Lined Steel Works

01

Steel Carrier Pipe

Steel outer pipe provides structural strength, pressure containment and mechanical protection.

02

HDPE Liner Insertion

Precision-manufactured HDPE liner inserted into the steel carrier and secured at each end.

03

End Terminations

Flanged or stub-end terminations create leak-tight connections between lined sections.

04

Installation

Complete system installed on-site with flanged or welded connections between spools.

Applications

Ideal For

  • Corrosive mining process water
  • Moderately abrasive slurries
  • Acid mine drainage
  • Chemical transfer lines
  • High-pressure applications requiring corrosion protection
  • Replacement of corroded steel pipelines
Advantages

Key Benefits

  • Steel strength + HDPE chemical resistance
  • Smooth bore — improved flow rates
  • No internal corrosion — extended service life
  • Lighter than solid steel alternatives
  • Resistant to scaling and biological growth
  • Cost-effective vs. exotic alloy pipes
